Poem: Facing the Music

AI art by me

Facing the music, paying the price,

Sometimes is neither easy nor nice.

Quicker by far to block it all out,

Than deal with angry ones starting to shout.

Block and delete is the coward’s sure way,

Ignoring the past day for a pretend new day.

I will admire and respect all the few,

Willing to stand and accept their just due.

With poise and grace to face the storm,

I wish this was not rare but norm.

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Jon! ☺️ And yes, I wish this were the norm too…

I’m curious about your choice/design of art for this piece. In theory, she’s “facing the music,” yet you’ve chosen to blindfold her. I’d love to hear your reasoning behind this, if you’re willing to discuss!

    1. I was going for the classic firing squad motif which includes the blindfold. I still think she is “facing the music” since she’s fully aware of the “guns” that are arrayed against her whether she can “see” them or not. She smiles a bit because she will take it as well as she’s taken any other “punishment” given to her: obediently, willingly, and her masochistic side might even enjoy it since she feels she deserves it.

      1. Thank you for the explanation! That smile was definitely enigmatic, so I appreciate your insights as to her obedience.

I’m embarrassed to say that – at first glance – my brain interpreted the bullet holes in the image as flowers. Oops! Maybe I should take off my blindfold next time, hmm? 😂

      2. oops….lol. Clean your glasses, maybe?

    2. I thought the bullet holes were flowers too, Jaye. I think my brain doesn’t connect bullet holes with BDSM or a smiling woman so I think it was an easy mistake. 💜
