This is a big departure from the earlier book I reviewed. I mean that in a very good way. Under Daddy’s Roof was a DDlg dynamic. Make no mistake, this book, Mastering His Captive, is not a Daddy-Little Girl kind of read. It sits firmly and, well, dominantly or submissively in the D/s category. I’d ague it almost teeters into M/s but it never say that so that’s totally from me.

Katherine Alexander is a “armchair” writer of erotica, meaning she has never truly experienced the D/s dynamic but write it so well that everyone believes she has had it. Over the years though, her writing has become banal and hackneyed (as my 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Mitchell used to say). She is quickly becoming a has-been author and knows it.

Every year, she goes on retreat from the world to camp in the same spot and get her creative juices going. It hasn’t really worked in a long time but she’s every hopeful it will now. Unbeknownst to her, she has someone watching her very closely and he’s been watching her for a long time.

Vaughn is a former Green Beret and has followed her writing career from the beginning. He loves her books, her writing, and can see she is indeed the neophyte to the lifestyle that others don’t see. He has a plan. It’s a plan to get her back to writing well and better than before. She will write better because she will have finally experienced the D/s dynamic and lifestyle. She will do it whether she wants to or not.

This book does deal with some coercion in the beginning. There’s a similar storyline in an movie called 365 Days, if I remember correctly. In the movie, a mafia don kidnaps a beautiful woman he sees on the streets of town and gives her a choice or sorts. She will stay with him and learn to become his submissive for one year, 365 days, if at the end she wishes to be free then he will let her go.

This book follows a similar approach. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the kidnapping and whether I could be convinced she was actually giving in to him in a realistic manner. I was persuaded that it could happen. For those of you who have seen the list of possible blog topics on Jaye’s site, you might have noticed the “butthole spanking” article. It…ah…grabbed my interest and Jaye has been kind enough to explain the process further to me as well as the aftermath. This is the book that contains it. It’s always fun to learn something new and I’m somewhat dying to try it out in the future.

This book has good length, depth of characters, and a pace that never leaves you bored. As is her usual, there’s very little in the way of vulgarity in it. There is, of course, some harsh discipline and one of the better scene descriptions of different techniques than I’d hitherto read before.

It’s a good read, a good time, and, I’d venture to say, somewhat educational for a few people. I highly recommend it.

  1. Delighted that you enjoyed it – thank you so much for sharing and reviewing! πŸ™β˜ΊοΈ

I wrote this one and Under Daddy’s Roof in rapid succession, but as you’ve so aptly pointed out, they couldn’t be more different in tone. πŸ˜‰

    1. That is very true. I could have told more but didn’t want to ruin any surprises for the readers. I did enjoy the twist is all I’ll say.
