Movie Review: Revenge of the Nerds (1984)

Don’t even start with me…some of you. I know full well some of you weren’t born yet and don’t need reminding. Lol.

I want to make it very clear that this review is about the very FIRST of the Revenge of the Nerds movies. For some reason, you can get all the sequels but not the original.

This movie does fit into this blog for a few reasons. It’s one of the few movies that shows as much as it does. The humor is on par with Animal House (another one I enjoy). It is also impossible to find on any streaming platform at the moment, at least in my country.

For those who have no idea what it is about…I’ll try not to spoil it.

Two guys (nerds – pocket-protectors, glasses, white socks with black shoes, snorting laughs, etc) are embarking on their first year of college at Adam’s University, Home of the Atoms. They face a steep, uphill battle getting any fairness at all on campus from just about everyone. The Alpha Betas are the Jock Frat and hate all things Nerdly.

It’s a raunchy comedy that used to get made back in the good, old 80s. The kind that didn’t apologize for being what it was meant to be: a funny, raunchy, VERY NON-PC movie for entertainment only. There are some notable actors in it who went on to do other things: Anthony Edwards, John Goodman, John Carradine, Curtis Armstrong, James Cromwell, and a couple others.

I was in the mood to watch it again as I hadn’t for several years only to find I couldn’t FIND it. Amazon Prime, no. Vudu, no. YouTube even, no. I had almost given up ever finding it again when I looked in a way I hadn’t for a few years…torrentially. Ah…found it. DL it. The graphics quality is good but it is in mono audio. Oh well.

If there are any of you who are curious and would like to watch this? Drop me an email and we can figured out how to get it from point a to point b.

Another reason I liked this movie? The underlying…heh…moral of the story: Never underestimate oration skills.
