AI art by me.
For context…this poem is inspired by the song done by Alan Parson’s Project, “Damned if I do, damned if I don’t.”
Now that the table or stage is set…
There are in all things opposites as dark is from the light,
As ugly is from pretty or wrong is from what’s right.
Can we have one without the other?
Can there be sister without brother?
Just as these eternal types, people are of the same stripe.
Like magnetic poles align, so do people thus define,
Type to type as ying to yang, one is wild, one is tamed,
It matters not when two such meet, If it’s online or on the street.
Moth cannot deny the flame, whatever cost in pain or shame,
Happily to another wed? Does not matter in their heads,
Damned it they don’t and damned if they do,
If it’s damned either way then why not be true?
True to your type, twin flames unite,
Burning with passion far into the night?
Damned to life of desperation?
Damned to always feel frustration?
One cannot resist the tide,
Better to have lived than died,
Never knowing such a feeling,
Finding one who sets you reeling,
Words are nice and do their part,
But ultimately it’s the heart,
It will tell you who is whom,
When you meet across a room.
If Damned is what I have to be,
The I’m be damned but I’ll be me.
