Random Question Ver.1

I had a questions I was hoping to get answered by my readers:

Do you prefer a Dark Romance, Erotica, whatever story where the male lead is a bit dense and doesn’t understand what we, the readers, can understand pretty well?

I find it annoying to write using a somewhat clueless male but it seems like there are a lot of other authors who are into doing that. The women in the stories know what-is-what but just shake their heads at him not understanding it.

Which way do you prefer you male leads in such stories?

  1. Oof. That’s going to be a big no from me on the dense male. I need him to be just as sharp as the woman. Cunning, knowledgeable, insightful…*swoon* Misunderstandings and mistakes will inevitably ensue, but in the end, there’s no point in falling for someone who won’t know what to do with you once you’ve fallen. #MyTwoCents 🙂

    1. Right?

It offends me a bit that the author I’m currently reading seems to want to give more credit to the women in the storyline than the man. Granted, all his protagonists are young men (aroound 20) but still.

As I wrote in the article about sub frustration, there are few things more scary and more dangerous than a frustrated submissive who has a Dom with no clue or hardly one.

  2. If you can bring him to his senses, give it a shot.

    1. Heh…I have no control over the protagnoists I am talking about because they are written by other authors. It’s just that I have yet to come across a D/s novel or sort of D/s novel where the Dom knows what’s going on very well. Thanks for your comment.

I prefer a more knowledgeable Sir, with a bent to more caring for his s & less harsh treatment. One where they can learn from each other. I have just now found my first & last Sir, very late in life, many years after the death of my husband. We are very happy, both being older & knowing what we want. Age definitely helps with wisdom! Maybe a story along those lines?? Thanks for some of the good reads!

    1. It’s so wonderful to hear from you. Thanks for yoru input. Yes, I do say and have written that a Dom that doesn’t think he can learn from a submissive isn’t very smart to begin with. They do learn from each other but someone has to be in the lead and have a fairly good idea where they are going.

As for your story suggestion, I will try and work something like that up. Thanks for the input.

I’m not sure I have read a piece of D/s fiction where the male lead was dense and clueless. That certainly does not hold any appeal to me, nor does it sound sexy. I am attracted to a dominant male character that is self-disciplined, capable of playing the long game, knows when to push a submissive out of her comfort zone AND when to slow down and not push too fast, and who knows how to scaffold submissive activities in a way that deepens her submission to him. I’m also not fond of submissive characters who play games or try to manipulate, or who don’t experience “the struggle” that most submissives go through as they wrestle with the reality of their desires. Thought-provoking discussion, thank you! XOXO

    1. Ah, yes, the long game. I’ve heard of that one. Thanks for your input and I will add I ‘completely understand.’

  5. I am a writer too. I detest any fiction where the male lead is ignorant, stupid, dense, or clueless. Who on earth could possibly enjoy that? Especially us submissives. Now and then, a bit of idiocy is acceptable and can be spun in the right direction, if he realizes he’s being stubborn and foolish! I agree with and enjoy your comments.

    1. Welcome and thanks for liking the comments. Come on in a sit a spell.
