Okay, fair warning, those who are strict Christians may not like the following Editorial Opinion piece but at least I warned you.

Technically, Bathsheba was a slut more than a bitch but bitch has a better consonance with her name…so oh well. If you want me to save you some time from reading the rest of this, or my deeper explanation, then it boils down to this. I am convinced Bathsheba knew EXACTLY what she was doing when she kept bathing in her balcony. She KNEW David went out there to watch the night. She KNEW he’d be enamored, nicer term, with her and things would proceed from there!

I came to this conclusion just today as I was pondering the way relations between men and women, husbands and wives and concubines were done in history and in the scriptures. It just suddenly hit me! Wait a minute, she just happens to be bathing fully nude on her balcony in front of God and David? Hmmm…no. I don’t buy it. Maybe it was warm. Maybe not. She still could have bathed inside her rooms where she would have been more modest. True, as I remember, her husband was absent and off fighting for David but still…really? Let’s be honest.

Bathsheba was tired of being a second or third grade wife of an office in the army. It was well-known David had an eye for beautiful women and for having them. One plus one equals two to me. She knew his habits. Everyone had to know his habits. She baited her hook with her glistening body and knew it would only be a matter of time.

There’s a similar scene in a movie called Witness with Harrison Ford. He accidentally see the woman bathing herself in her room with the door open part way, thankyewverymuch. She sees him see her and doesn’t move an inch, doesn’t shout, doesn’t do anything to cover herself. That’s permission to look in my book. She didn’t look frozen or in shock. She knew what she was doing and did it. Doesn’t work because he doesn’t stick around…too much cultural differences and all that.

History paints David to be the bad guy in the whole Bathsheba thing which does have some truth to it because he did act on it and did give into temptation but I think there are some extenuating circumstances here. I may be thought of us as an out-of-touch male for thinking this way but there it is and there I have explained it.
